Instance Updates – Dec 19, 2022

With the Twitter Migration underway, we have finally decided to resize the server to support a new influx of users who might join our instance. While Twitter has reversed it’s policy, people are coming to a realization that the erratic behavior from Elon Musk who control the platform and looking for alternatives like Mastodon.

Remember, we have resources for those who are new to Mastodon such as a beginner’s guide to Mastodon, a tutorial to set up autosharing of blog posts, and a directory of Anime Bloggers and content creators that are already on Mastodon. This should help people find the creators they follow on the service. We are also adding any anime bloggers and anime industry contacts to our administrative account, @sakurajima@sakurajima.moe so people on this instance can see their toots since there is no algorithm.

Lastly, if you are on this instance, let them know where you are by sharing your Mastodon handle and even invite them to join this server. Besides the links and QR codes provided, anyone can create invites and even set it so that they will follow you after joining.

Lastly, the server moderation list is now public, but I am in the process of gradually adding reasons, possibly moving some instances to limited from suspended that only have incidents of harassment, unless they are a troll farm. This will give the opportunity for others to move off the server as you can’t with suspended and still follow users there without appearing in the federated timeline. I added bad actor servers to the list without reason as a preemptive measure, but there needs to be a balance so that only instances that are really bad deserve the suspension and not lead to collateral damage. However, the amount of servers that are on the list will probably only change somewhat, but most will mostly stay the same to keep everyone safe.

Remember, we only suspend servers that have illegal content (CSAM, lolicon, pedophilia), hate speech, extremist information, troll farms, misinformation/conspiracy theories, or lack of moderation/no moderation. Incidence of harassment will have a cooldown period of 1 week with limited status. However, some instances may stay limited as they may still break our rules, but still can follow accounts there indefinitely.
