Centralized, COMMERCIAL Social Platforms are Getting Worse

Since 2022, commercial social platforms like Twitter/X, Reddit, Facebook, Instagram, etc are making the experience worse for the users. They do things such as having poor moderation, putting features behind a paywall, and making the overall user experience horrible for everyone.

However, we are building an alternative.

Meet Sakurajima , the Fediverse Ecosystem for Anime Blooggers, Video Creators, and Anime Fans

Sakurajima is a community ecosystem (Xenforo Forums, Mastodon, and Firefish) for the English Japanese-media and Anime blogging community to talk about anime, manga, light novels, video games, and other types of Japanese media.

Founded on October 28, 2022 shortly after Elon Musk bought Twitter as a personal project, Sakurajima was born, becoming a non-toxic and inclusive place for sharing Japanese media-based content, talking about Japanese media and more. On May 1st, Sakurajima created a new Calckey instance at Sakurajima.social, to help bring more users from Twitter with an easier to use alternative to Mastodon.

Sakurajima has a bunch of features that makes it a better alternative to Twitter, Threads, and BlueSky.

Social Network that Can’t be Bought

Sorry Space Karen, Jark Dorsey, and Mark Zuckerberg, you can’t buy Mastodon or Misskey, the individual users to set up a Mastodon and Misskey servers like the good old days with websites, blogs, and internet forums.
Hate Free Zone

All instances that are not moderated, have hate, extremist groups, and misinformation are banned from federating with Sakurajima. This includes problematic instances that are known for harassment and ”free speech” instances with no moderation. From this, you should be confident that you will have a safe experience here.
One Account, Follow Anyone

Sakurajima is powered by Mastodon and Misskey, which is part of the Fediverse, allowing users to follow anyone, favorite, boost, or reply to any toot without being on that server. You may also follow BlueSky users with a Mastodon or Misskey account using the BlueSky Bridge^.1

No Ads, No ALGORITHMS

At Sakurajima, you don’t have to deal with pesky ads and your timeline acts like a timeline should be. Not fed with stuff that corporations want you to read.

We provide an easy mode client exclusive for our users only. This provides a familiar Twitter-like interface to make the transition easier.*
Full Control of your Data

You have full control of your data and you can move your account to another server at any time. On our Misskey server (using the Sharkey fork), you can import your posts from Mastodon, Misskey, Firefish, IceShrimp, Akkoma or from another Misskey server.
Multiple Styles and More

Besides the default Mastodon/Misskey themes, there are other styles you can pick from and more are in the works. We also have custom anime-themed emojis as well.

We also have an internet forums if that is your thing.
React to any post

You have the power to react to any post using emojis, including custom ones. Our instance has the ability to view reactions from other Glitch-Soc Mastodon (with patch), Fedibird, Akkoma, Firefish, IceShrimp, and Misskey. No more using just plain flavourites to express your likeness or any emotion to any post.

Trusted and Safe

Unlike the Birdsite, Threads, and Bluesky, Sakurajima has strict moderation to make our online space safe and inclusive for everyone. We fully comply with the Mastodon Covenant to moderate both our Mastodon and Misskey servers against hate speech, harassment, and unpleasant materials, ensure the server is safely backed up when something goes wrong so nobody loses data, and make sure technical issues are resolved when the owner is not online.

In an event we have to shut down our services permanently (which we hope never happens), we will give three months notice for everyone to find a new server, download their user data and move to another server.

We have been around since Elon bought the Birdsite in late October 2022 and we have content creators using the platform along with fans of Japanese media. In addition, we also receive some financial support to keep our servers running for the long term. This should give everyone confidence the long term longevity of our platforms.
